Question about the new 6 speed.
Is it true that the six speed going into the new GTi's and Jetta's is the same one curently being used in the Audi TT? If so, will a short shift kit for a TT work on a 6-speed GTi?

We believe the TT and 24V will share the same transmission. But, we don't know if the shift levers or linkage will be the same. I know you're impatient, but you'll have to wait until the car gets here.

Nobody knows because the car isn't even here yet! The short shift works on the shift lever. The shift lever is different from the transmission. They are connected to one another via the shift linkage. But, they are not the same.

Just one more thing. Probably a stupid question, but I have to ask anyway.
If, hypothetically, the GTi does share a tranny with the TT, wouldn't it then be possible to drive to an Audi dealership and have them toss on TT Linkage and a shift lever?

Since the TT body is different than a Golf body, the "path" from the shift lever to the transmission in the two cars may be different. Also, since the 6 speed TT has Quattro, the "path" may be different. If the "path" is different, the shift linkage will be different. If the "path" is the same, the shift lingage will probably be the same, so there won't be any advantage replacing the VW shift lingage with the exact same TT shift lingage. The shift levers may also be the same. So replacing the VW lever with the exact same TT lever won't improve your car either.
