My ignition switch on my '98 GLX is jamming. I have the key code number. I want the lock cylinder replaced with one that works with my existing keys. I don't want to have one key for the switch, and another for the door, trunk, glove compartment, etc.
Can I use the key code number to get a lock cylinder that fits my key?

Re: Question: Can you order a new ignition lock cylinder to fit your existing key(s)? (Mark1)

either that or you buy a complete set of new locks for the car
I've never messed around with ignition switches
but I had a good amount of luck rekeying a door lock on an older hoda of mine
that leads me to belive that with the corect tools/ training you could rekey it

A friend and I rekeyed the lock cylinder on the trunk of his MR2. It's not that hard. Just keep all the springs and plates in the right order and it should work fine.
