What size is it? Like is there any other way of getting ahold of one of these without going to a Audi or VW place. I want the donut I just dont know an easy way to get one. Maybe someone could send me on and I send them back the money or something. I just want that boost in power that it will give.

Re: Question on exhaust Donut (kennyg)

Well i dont got a dremel. I dont have the money for one either. I do have 3 bucks for a donut though. Still any answers? I dont think my downpipe-cat connection is smooth enough to except a non-gasket rig.

Re: Question on exhaust Donut (FoxWagonGuy)

Scott (anthracitedude) and I picked ours up at the local good auto parts place. May have to pull the rear seat, and the seatbelt assembly to find some more change, I think it it was closer to $4.
And dont forget, the bolts/nuts will need changed too, so you need a couple of dollars for that. And patience, maybe a hacksaw, or a torch would be good. And more patience. Keep large destructive tools out of hands reach.
So you might need $10, and a shrink.
Or take hours w/ a cheap round file. Uck. Forget that.
Calling around is free, find out if anybody has it, find out the going price.
shipping would probaly cost more than the part would.

Re: Question on exhaust Donut (FoxWagonGuy)

Any decent auto parts store should have one. Maybe specifically listed for the Fox, else just take in the old one and match up the size ( OD, not restricted ID).

Edit: decent=good; same idea. Look at post time tag here and above. gmta

How about a file? You got one of those?

edit: Or take that $3 and replace some cracked vacuum lines. It'll probably give you the same increase in HP.

Re: Question on exhaust Donut (Anthracite Blue Dude)

So if my car is almost completely stock, except from minor intake work, this donut wont do much? Or will it do a little and make it sound nice? Or just make it sound nice? Im still gonna do it either way, but im just wondering.

Re: Question on exhaust Donut (FoxWagonGuy)

It'll add power - especially at higher engine speeds where the stock ring strangles it. The A2 cars' base CIS-E engine (GX) is essentially the same except for the exhaust (stoo-pid ring) and has a higher horsepower rating. Of course the A2 exhaust is probably otherwise a bit less restrictive, too, but considering the Fox ring cuts down the area in the pipe nearly 50%!
it's the best first step.
For the small cost of buying one you'll sure save a lot of time and hassle grinding/filing.

Re: Question on exhaust Donut (tscot)

Hey guys. Since I had to get a new resonator on my Fox in the fall, I had brand new bolts on the front flange. Yesterday I went into Canadian Tire, and bought the new non-restrictive exhaust gausket. All I had to do was tell them the year of my Fox, and that it had no catalytic converter (early '88 canadian had a resonator). I Brought it home, and did some comparisons.
The total area of the hole in the original gasket was approx. 8.04 cm
The total area of the hole in the new gasket was approx. 15.9 cm
This means that the total area that the exhaust can pass through is essentially doubled.
Just thought you might want to know.

No, your theory is flawed. The original diameter was 3.2 cm(radius 1.6cm), the new diameter is 4.5 cm(radius 2.25cm).
aree
IE X (radius squared)
old gasket area=8.04cm
new gasket area=15.9cm
This means that the new gasket area is almost 200% larger (197.7%). That is double, not quadrupil. But it still is a big increase.

By the way. The part number for the new gasket at Canadian Tire is 17-2188.

Re: Question on exhaust Donut (dtompsett)

Sorry. I read your post too fast and missed that you were providing total area (it was in your post, I just missed it).

And unfortunately I "think" in inches and did not convert the cm, or I should have realized that 15.9 would be too large to be diameter.
Very minor nit: 15.9cm should be 15.9cm squared or square cm
