questions about 03 gls auto transmission

I'm new to volkswagens and i was wondering if there were any upgrades that could be done to the transmission, and if not if its possible to convert to a standard transmission.
If it is possible to convert what all parts are needed, ive done the swap a few times on hondas but im completely new to vw's
