Re: Questions for full time working mechanics: (PhastPhasion)
I'm not a mechanic yet but I start Automotive School in September so I can answer your questions from what I have heard...
1. The Automotive Technician industry is one of the only industries where the demand GREATLY exceeds the supply, I heard there were about 60,000 mechanics more needed last year than there were. Not sure how that fact came to be but thats what they told me.
2. I've never heard of any union.
3. They told me on average once you are out of school and working most people make about $38k right off, you can make more if you are good, or less if you suck.

1. How is the industry now for mechanics? Are their lots of jobs? Or is it facing the same crisis as the IT industry? Are dealerships letting mechanics go from decreased sales? 2. Is it common to be involved in a union? Are all mechanics in a union? 3. How long did it take you to earn $40k a year? |
