I took my 2000 jetta vr6 into the dealership today because it was leaking oil, they called back and said that it was going to be $500 to replace a cracked oil pan

is this really how much it costs? the price really shocked me, but the guy said it was labor intensive....
so i was just wondering if this was a fair price

buy oil pan.

check this out just for an example (its an 1.8t oil pan wont fit)

save a few bucks

seems fair for a dealer price...
i know you can buy an oil pan online and do it yourself for much less

Hey, I, too was shocked when i dished out 500 dollars for a fricked up oil pan.

If it happened again, I would buy the part and do it myself. A few bolts, and some knowledge that you can find online.
Good luck buddy, and look into buying a skidplate, which I should do as well.

If you pay $500 for that I will kiil you.
Fixing an oil pan is like one of the easiest things ever, it is like 6-8 bolts.
Just drain you're oil, and unbolt it.
Clean the the block surface where the oil pan connect with a razor blade and some faomy engine bright, and then get some gasket sealer, and put it around the oil pan, and arounf the block, let them sit for like 5 min, and then press iut on, and put ion the bolts. Should take 1-2 hrs of undistracted work.

buy an oil pan for ~$100. put it on yourself.
there are ~26 bolts. not 6-8

Thanks for everyones input, yall have been really helpful. The car was at the dealership anyways for that dang coolant leak (warranty) so the busted oil pan was just icing on the cake....

Since it's there I guess I'm gonna pay for it this one time

but I will definately check into those skidplates
