RWD just takes more skill to master.
Get some Nokoa Hakkaperellis(sp?), and don't take your foot suddenly off/on the throttle in a turn, and you'll be fine in snow.
I can scan my DEQ test sheet. I got 1/2 (and lower) of the limit (co2, etc.) on every score.
Plus, the new RENESIS engine saves pollutants that it would otherwise expel, and burns them in the next combustion cycle (or so the article said)..So it should be pretty good on emissions.
My wife use to drive a '96 Z28 with the 6-speed and SS wheels (275mm!!!). The traction control and knowledge of basic physics was all she needed.
And this is without ever having snow or M&S tires! Goodyear GSCs and then Dunlop 8000s... not known for traction on rain, let alone, snow.
In a RWD car, in snow, if you can feel the shifting of the weight of the car(not shifting your weight, but the car itself), you're driving too fast.
In rain, at least, I can just bump the back end out (just takes 2 psi), lift off the throttle (lift-off oversteer) real quick, countersteer, then steer in the right direction, I can do a nice easy constant drift for however long I want. --you will love 50/50 RWD
Give yourself some slack. Every car was rwd, and every driver wasn't killed in winter. All you have to do is SLOW DOWN, and you don't spin. Why the heavenly aura around cars? They're all kind of the same.
Pu-leez. Every car is a ripoff of its competitors. When a new style emerges we all put our fingers down our throats and say "the Aztec, what an Ug-lee beast! Yuck! Eww! Waaah!"
I guess a beater wouldn't be a bad idea....Maybe I'll be able to borrow my dad's TT ;-)......Seriously though...I suppose the RX-8 is low enough in the torque dept. so that I won't be spinning my wheels to easily in the snow/ice.....I just have heard so many stories of people in their Miatas going into ditches in rochester.........I'm a pretty good driver though....I REALLY want the rx-8........mmm..

Yes! Remember the days of big ol' RWD American cars, even simple transportation cars. THey pretty much all had big V8's. High torque. There was snow back in those days.
Get the RX-8. Snow isn't an automotive jail cell. You'll get around fine.
Oh, yeah...my brother's had a big Delta 88, an Elektra 225 (deuce 'n' a quarta, baby!), a Cutlass supreme with the mighty mouse V8...big RWD cars with high torque. Never ever had a problem. Even in the Blizzard of '96.
Get the RX-8.
