R32 or wait for A3

Currently have an 20AE which was supposed to be a temporary car until the A3 was available. After driving the R32 I am not sure if I should wait. The new A3 should have same drivetrain, but slightly bigger inside(a little extra trunk space would be nice). The A3 is definately better looking, and has a newer body and suspension, but might not drive as well as the R32.
Any thoughts especially from anyone who has seen the new A3?

Better looking??? Beauty is in the eye of he who desires the car. We have the new A3 3.2 DSG and FSI in NZ and I have driven a DSG.
It is a very nice car but almost 20 grand more than an R32 in NZ. Does not steer as nicely as the R, nor does it feel as quick. However it is beautifully made and well appointed. IMHO it does not look that much different from the previous A3.

Gaahhh...A3.

That is one beautiful hatch.
If they brought over the 3-door with the 3.2L V6, I'd slap a OEM body kit on it and some nice rims. That would be the hottest hatch ever!!
Plus, Volkswagen service sucks. I have to do all the work on my car because the local VW dealerships are pure crap, which defeats the purpose of a warranty. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

Re: R32 or wait for A3 (benfifteen)

It just hurts worse to take the depreciation hit on only having the 20AE for 9 months. I have done it in the past when I really hated a car, but the 20AE is very nice on its own. I would also have to get new winter wheels and tires.
The R32 did not seem to have some of the annoying clunks and rattles the 20AE has had since the begining. And the sound of the engine is soo good.
The reduced room of the trunk is a concern. The trunk is even smaller than the normal GTI. I don't want to keep the rear seats folded down all summer to fit the golf clubs. The reduced size trunk is as small as the TT roadster. I had hoped the increased room of the new A3/golf would carry over to the trunk, and not just the back seat.

Re: (WMTJ)

when are the A3's coming to the states. I've been a big fan forever but will they actually bring the S3 over here? If not, what's the comparison to the R32? Obviously the Audi is the preferred company but alot of the R32 is Audi based... and you know it's alot less expensive than a S3 would be. I'm still looking forward to seeing them though

Re: R32 or wait for A3 (backtoVW)

i don't know....i went to the A3 audi forum here and looked at non-commercialized (real life) photos of the A3 and i stop liking its look when it gets to the back section of the hatch.
i like the overall look of the R32 better, but that's just me. the A3 looks like a audi sport sedan that had its rear end clipped off to make it into a hatch. same reason i never cared for the bmw ti hatches that they quit producing. just doesn't look right.

Re: (.:Rabbit32)

I like the front of the A3. I think the pictures I have seen of the new grille on the A6 and A8 look horrible. The rear hatch on the A3 look more sporty, more reminisant of the Corrado or scorrico as compared to the Golf's minivan look.
The dealer offered 15,500 for my pristine 20AE, thanks VW. Anyone else trade in their 20AE on a R32?
Also drove the TT 3.2 to see what the DSG was like (in future golf and A3 models). It was kind of neat, but would take some getting used to. I think I like the 6 spd stick better. Thought about trading the TT instead until I tried to fit my driver in the trunk, or rear glove box.
