In the morning when my car is really cold and I take off from a stop sign the engine makes a light mettallic rattling, almost like a valve tap...but it only happens until the turbo spools up around 2000 rpm. The turbo kicks on and it goes away.
Any one have a clue on this as the dealership said they don't hear(big surprise
) it but everyone else seems to...

Re: Rattle When Cold...already did a search (BryanH)

As an aside I thought maybe it was dirty valves or something so I ran a can of BG44k through it and it didn't help at all. I have always used mobil 1 and its a 2002 with 15000 miles on it.

tried that....it doesnt occur under a no load condition but if you slip the clutch at a...very...low RPM it still does it.

I don't know about the expanding part but yes its coming from the middle-right are in front of me which would correlate to the middle of the pasneger seat area.

Re: Rattle When Cold...already did a search (spoolin)

Is there any way I can check the tensioner as the only service department around here I can trust is really slammed all the time and its about an hour away from me.
and...btw...what tensioner are you referring to...belt tensioner?

I've had my car in for this already.... They classified this as "normal starting noise".... It sounds Frikkin terrible!! but if they can't fix it, they cant fix it....?!?!

Re: Rattle When Cold...already did a search (NewBlue)

you can tell them to call me on my cell and Ill tell them its not a "normal stage noise"
the work that was performed by a tech here in AZ that knows what he is doing obviously has it on the paper as the Cam Adjuster bleeding down oil/ not holding pressure.
any more questions IM me!
it is a very annoying issue that makes your car sound cheap everytime you start the car. if you let it go too long the noise will actually be constant at idle. you will think that you engine is slappin valves.
its the Cam adjuster

Thanks for the reply...I think I will give the service guy a call as this does not sound like something I can check. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

no problem, I hope that the people that think its just something plastic rattling when they start the car, now know its not plastic, its a bit more serious than that.
