Whats good about mk1 vins. what do they mean?

My first 3 are WVW
To distinguish the trim models in Crown Victoria's in the vin's there's P71/72/73....Mines a P71 police interceptor

WVW means it was made in Germany.

If you look harder, there is a vin decoder out there.

the first digit is country of origin
second and third are manufacturer

this is using the standardized system (see image).. vw switched around 79-81, not sure exactly when, but my old 79 rocco had a 10-digit all-numbers vin and my 83 has a standard vin
