OK, here we go... it's not a "what chip is the best?" poll. It's "why did you purchase the chip you bought?" with no concern for which one you actually have. I realize there are many factors that go into the decision, but which was the most important to you.
Too avoid stupid additions, if I left out your reason just explain in a post.

I didnt know much about chipping (a year ago) , I went for the big name and small price! (I do regret a little, just a little)

I went for GIAC because of it's performance, not to bad of a price, it's local, (20 min drive), and i've driven a car with it before.

i was all gung ho to get apr even though they are the most expensive but then i found out that GIAC had a dealer / installer nearby... so i went with them instead of sending my ECU across the country.

GIAC - reliable, great gains, local support - price is the downside - but it is definitely worth it
495 for the program
50 for a socket
75 for install - sometimes free
50 for tax

I bought my GIAC late in 2000 second hand...big performance gains for a lot less than a new chip.

I think the number 1 reason anyone buys a chip is the gain in performance. When it is all said and done the big 3 chip makers produce gains so close to each other it is futile to argue about it. It is the other things like features, customer service, reputation, local support, etc that make us choose one company over the other.

Me too. Also so I'd have to go out and buy a Forge DV.
Seriously though, when it boils down to it, who gets chipped for any reason other than performance? But since most of the chips are similar in performance, serviceability played a big part in my decision to go with APR. They had the closest dealer to me (other than Neuspeed, anyway).

You've answered my question, which I guess I didn't word well enough. Obviously you get any chip for the performance, but like above have said, since the big three are all very close, local dealer is a driving force - and most likely why my next chip will be an Upsolute. They are the only ones within 500 miles of me...

Plus, 2 service managers in your local area have our chip

I got mine for increased mileage. with the 3" TB and chip I get 37 mpg on the hwy with the cruise set at 77mph. 580 on one tank is good for a passat.

Don't know about increased mileage if you have a lead foot like me. I get 250 on the best day. Last one was 227 per galon. All city drivng though.
