Re: rear brake adjustment after lowering? (1trikjetta)

quote:

I've heard that you have to adjust something in the rear brakes when you go really low. Does anybody know exactly what that is?

Ha, you have already adjusted it by lowering the car, making the proportioning valve think you have four people in the back...but the adjustment would be to the valve, which sits next to the beam in the back....can't visualize it right now, but i am sure mr. bentley or lowlife could help.

Neuspeed sells a clip that adjusts the proportioning valve or you can try adjusting it yourself.

Do a search, there was a thread on the adjuster not too long ago. I think it was started by Broke, but don't quote me on that. There were pics posted as well. But I think its on the axle beam, towards the front of it on the driver's side (?) Little spring doo-hicky.

Once you're under the car, you'll be able to see which way you need to adjust the attachment of the spring to the proportioning valve slot. When you lower your car, it biases the brakes more to the rear. Since you don't REALLY have more weight on the rear, you want to move the attachment point of the spring to put the angle of the valve arm back to where it was before the car was lowered.
It's a quick 2 minute job once you're under there with the proper tools. (Open-end wrenches.)
