Hey all, tried the search, but didn't have any luck.
I was trying to hook up my rear fog (97 jetta 2.slow) and I have all the connectors, etc. I ran the wire from the number 12 headlight pin on the euroswitch, then ran it under the drivers doorsill, to the rear drivers doorsill, to the trunk. Then, I ran the wire up through the grommet into the number 3 pin thing on the drivers side of the taillight thing. I tried splicing into the grey and white wire on the brakelight wiring harness. I don't seem to be getting any power anywhere, however. I tested the wire coming out of the headlight switch, and it doesn't have any power going to it.
I don't know if it makes a difference, but neither the front or rear fog light lights on the switch don't, and never have, lighten up (I bought the switch new). I don't have front fogs, and the rear fog is just getting hooked up now, so I would imagine as soon as I got power to the fog, it would light up?
Thanks!

Don't know about your car but in the MkIVs there is a separate fuse that provides power to both the front and rear fog lights.

I don't think it's the same way, because none of the instructions I've read say anything about a fuse...
Thanks for replying though!

Maybe they're assuming that the fuse is OK? I assume that your euroswitch was stock - are you sure that it was wired for fogs?

I might be wrong but I though that some of the switches have to have a load on them from the front fogs to power the rear. Just a thought someone had said once. Good luck http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Hmmmm....Interesting thought. I figured it would, that way it wouldn't require a special switch like on the US ones (for people without fogs)...That, and it has positions on it for the front fogs (has the pull switch, and the indicator) as well as for the rear fog (the second pull)..Dunno!

hmmm....This also is an interesting thought. I have a set of aftermarket fogs (they are round ones...) that I might install...hmmm...

doesn't the switch provide ground not power?

Hmm....I thought it would have provided both. IIRC if you put a voltmeter to some of the other wires, they have power going through them, even if the switch isn't on that function at the moment (parking lights, taillights, etc). Again, I could be wrong on that, but I don't think I am...

Re: Rear fog woes... (protzler)

i hooked up the rear fog on my 2003 gti and i ran a wire from pin 8 i think to the taillight. i plugged the wire into an open spot near the rear fog. it was definitly a ground trigger wire though.

I don't think so - the front and rear fog lights on a MkIV get 12volts from the headlight switch and the rears get ground from ground #50 in the luggage compartment.

I am unsure how thorough your search was but I pulled up 19 threads pertaining to rear fogs and it was just in the MK3 section. Anyway here's a nice link that's sure to help you: http://webpages.charter.net/du....html http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Hope it helps.

Re: Rear fog woes... (Armani)

Cool cool, thanks!
I did the search, looking for my specific problem, not instructions (i got those from another site). Though yours did help! Looks like I need the relays!
Thanks!

Re: Rear fog woes... (dennisgli)

I'm not sure either...In one of the links above, it says that if I don't have front fogs, I need to buy the relays for them, so my rear fog will work...
It makes me wonder though, perhaps that is why the indicators on the switch (for the front and rear fogs) don't lite up when I switch either of them on...And the reason I'm not getting power out of the switch for the rear fog...hmmm...
Anyone know someplace besides the dealer I can pick up the relays? Would Advanced Auto Parts carry them you think?
