how is your rear plate mounted? please share pics. wanted to see if any mounting brackets were used.
luckily, my dealer did not mount any of my plates during delivery since they knew it was going to the detailer for a new car prep and PPF.
thanks in advance.

Mine is drilled right into the bumper. Plate was directly on the bumper until I put a thin bracket in between to raise it up a bit.

My dealer used their plate frame as the 'template', measured and evenly spaced it, and then just drilled it. I simply removed their frame, and put the plate directly on. I like the cleaner look, but I will probably find a material to back the plate with so it's not up against the paint for too long.
I will try to remember to post a more detailed picture later today.

It is strange that VW does not have real mounts for the rear plate. I did not know this and so the dealer installed my plate with standard VW issue self tapers. I guess I will just tap the lower 2 as well to install my plate cover. Maybe there is a way to drill and install some sort of threaded insert but I have not looked into that yet, I have a bunch of license plate hardware from various cars and Macneil covers so maybe I can make it look and work better?

Thanks! Ordered!! Looks great on yours. Also.. that MD flag
Thanks!!

My dealer only drilled the top two holes. I went back to the dealer and got two more screws and drilled the bottom two myself when I got the bracket. The bracket isn't super stiff and if you have a plate that isn't perfectly flat (which I'm sure is most) then it won't sit pretty and flush.

Self tapping screws here.

Many people buy additional hardware for using expanding nuts (rivnuts). The local Volvo dealership by me uses self-tapping screws to secure the mount.

For the detailing oriented people, they like the rivnuts so they can unbolt the holder to clean behind it.

I used the Volvo bracket on my 2015 GTI that was just totaled and I loved it. Very clean look, easy to clean around, and I liked the look of the plate hoovering off the bumper. I used expanding rubber well nuts to install it so the bracket could be taken off without tiring out a standard screw hole.

Since I got rear ended I have purchased a 2015 Golf R and just ordered the Volvo mount. I cannot remember where and what size well nuts I used on the GTI.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what type of well nut would work best for the install of a Volvo mount into a Golf R bumper?

biglilsteve, did you install the plate butted up against the lip that hangs over the top license plate area. My dealer installed mine 3/4" below it and was wondering if that was normal or if I should push it all the way up?
