Yeah it's butted all the way up. The plate looks like it would overhang if you don't.biglilsteve, did you install the plate butted up against the lip that hangs over the top license plate area. My dealer installed mine 3/4" below it and was wondering if that was normal or if I should push it all the way up?

Why concerned about holes in the rear bumper? It's always going to need a plate there.Get the volvo mount and some 3m dual lock velcro at a hardware store and be done with it. I did not want to punch holes in the bumper and the velcro solution solved it and also makes it easy to pop plate and bracket off in one step for cleaning behind it. I will get a pic of it later today.
Or, no bracket at all! Just use Heavy Duty Velcro (2 strips 4" long X 2" cut to 1" wide) plate to bumper - plate is removable as required, won't ever fall off - Velcro is used in commercial airliners to secure interior panels to the structure:Get the volvo mount and some 3m dual lock velcro at a hardware store and be done with it. Careful with that stuff... it has a maximum operating temperature. Thereafter, the glue says "I'm done".Or, no bracket at all! You guys are crazy.
License plates are always required. The paint behind them will never be seen by anyone ever. Screw plate into rear bumper. If you're super concerned about scratches, use some PPF and a spacer. Move on with your life.
Really? You must be kidding right? 3M Velcro adhesives are good for over 200°F...do you really think the licence plate area of the bumper is in danger of going over 200°F?? The bumper would melt or warp before the adhesive would say "I'm done".Careful with that stuff... it has a maximum operating temperature. Thereafter, the glue says "I'm done".![]()
Absolutely! Crazy enough to not drill unnecessary holes and add fasteners that can rust or corroded, or come loose over time...You guys are crazy....
Why are you so caught up in something being "certified" for use in aircraft interiors? Interior panels have been know to fall off in turbulence, and are subject to significantly less vibrations than a vehicle. I agree with you about heat likely not being an issue, but your bumper isn't going to melt at 200F.Really? FYI - Since Velcro is certified for use in aircraft interiors, it is quite capable of handling any temperature that the body of a car would be exposed to.

As others have said:
1. Volvo rear license plate bracket
2. Well Nuts
3. 10-32 stainless screws
You pick the size well nuts and screws. Here are examples. See post 33 below.
MEASURE 4 TIMES- then drill holes. Be sure you have proper spacing to center plate horizontally and vertically.
I used painter tape to cover bumper when drilling

They are M6x1mm acorn nuts (I measured tested them at Home Depot when I bought the kit)thanks again. but im asking for the cap nuts that will actually screw onto the volvo bracket to secure the plate...im assuming your reply was in reference to my question. if not, i apologize.
I use this https://www.ebay.com/itm/REAR-LICEN...ash=item3f872abbf2:g:syIAAOSwuk1Zvehl&vxp=mtr
Never liked the Volvo bracket because of the cap nuts. I think the BMW bracket looks much better as well. Oh and it's cheap.
