so, i finally found some time to get this done.

Measure 10x, then drill...
- The measurement from the outer sides from one license plate light to the other is 12" (same size as the US plate).
- Marked the center line of location and bracket.
- Marked up the hole locations.
- Drill holes.
- Mount bracket.
**Note: I added some foam padding behind the bracket to prevent any possible vibrations.

As others have said:
1. Volvo rear license plate bracket
2. Well Nuts
3. 10-32 stainless screws

You pick the size well nuts and screws. Here are examples. See post 33 below.

MEASURE 4 TIMES- then drill holes. Be sure you have proper spacing to center plate horizontally and vertically.
I used painter tape to cover bumper when drilling

I am going to have my detailer put this on - how will he know what size holes to drill?

Reviving this old but very useful thread. I just mounted my plate using the BMW mounting clone that someone else had linked earlier. For $9 delivered, including ALL the hardware needed to finish the job, it's a steal...

https://ebay.us/xjnw2V

Comes with 2 self-tapping, allen head screws to mount the mount to your bumper, plus 4 allen head screws to secure the plate to the frame, and an allen head key in the appropriate size. The self-tappers secure the frame to the car just fine - no real need to use inserts IMHO. Much better solution than 2 self-tappers into the bumper by the dealer, of questionable measurement, and nothing securing the bottom of the plate. In my case my plate was slightly tweaked outward at the bottom right corner, with no easy way to flatten it without securing it - this solved that issue quite nicely. Highly recommended product!

Ordering the same, as my plate is not centered (I swear the dealer just eyeballed it and drilled straight into the bumper). I will take pics of the holes just for fun when I get the mount and see how off they really were.

On my R (twice now due to bumper fascia replacement), I just used the square nylon inserts kit below ($5 at Amazon amazon.com/dp/B00032KBFE) Just find the center of both your license plate and the mounting area, line them up and use the license plate holes as your template (make sure to leave room for a frame). Take the license plate away, and use a utility knife to cut square holes, then pop them in. Super easy, looks stockish, and no rattles.

Here's another look at how much the plate is lifted off the surface of the bumper by this mount. The stock BMW mount under my plate here is exactly what was duplicated by the Ebay mount used on my R.

Anyone else got theirs installed yet?
