Re: Rear Wheel bearings on disc brake cars... (vdubturbo)

Well my dad did them for me last week while I was replacing my dust shields/brake pads and it didn't look too hard. I know he didn't have to use a vice or press or anything but I think he used some special tool to get them out easier. The bearing that's to the outside of the disc fell right out, but the back one was tight. Hope that is of some help.

YO! nothin' to it. You just cleaning and repacking the bearings or replacing them? Buy new grease seals (national brand #1962) and if you need bearings the numbers are A-15 for the inners (2 required) and A-1 for the outers (2 required) (BCA brand #'s and come with new races). Get new cotter pins (1/8" x 2" will work), too. And grease of course. Races can be removed and reinstalled easily with a race driver (see parts store). Make sure you get the races fully seated. Read the bently to figure out correct bearing tension when reassembling.

If you are shade treeing it, as I imagine you are; Use a flat head screw driver and a hammer to knock the old race out of the rotor. Use a large socket and a hammer to drive the new race into place(carefully of course). Like the others said, use new grease, cotter pins, and replace the seal on the back side where the inner bearing is. Easy as pie. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
