I was wondering... with the whole debadging fad, would it be totally against the rules to rebadge a car. For instance, say I purchased a 2000 Golf GLS. Would it be taboo for me to rebadge this car as an Audi... say an Audi A3? Or would such a rebadging be considered adventurous?
I bet I could throw some people off...

Re: Rebadging - Taboo? (vwvapors.com)

I think it depends on the car like I would like to badge my Quantum as a Passat since it could easily pass as one in America plus it was Passat in Germany and easier to tell people what it is

Rebadging the Golf as an Audi A3 would be as rebadging a Passat to an Audi A4.
Or like a certain black Honda Del Sol with BMW badges

You should only rebadge if it is a step up from what the car actually is. Why not go for a Mercedes or Porsche badge? It would probably attract more girls that way.

Let me explain my side - you can't get A3s in the USA. Rebadging a Passat or A4 as an S4 would be wanna-be rebadge, but considering that you can't get A3s in the US, and probably the closest car to them is a GTI, that's not as bad.
But at least now we know the consensus, for the record and all.

Re: Rebadging - Taboo? (mr_mbuna)

All this makes me wonder if an A3's body panels could be swapped on a GTI...
not that I would do it... but it could be feasible considering they are both A4 chassis cars...
hmmmm

so is it right to rebadge an a4 as an rs4? a g35 as a skyline gt-r? an escort as a cosworth? a focus zx3 as a focus rs? your logic is really flawed.
