Recommend Snow Tires for 2002 GTI?

Hi All,
My first post here, so I hope I've done my homework. There's not much information available online yet for the 2002 Golf GTI, and I'm taking delivery of mine this week.
Living in New England, I think one of the first things I'll do is buy a good set of snow tires for it. I searched the archives of this forum, but didn't find anything (perhaps I should search for "tyres" instead?)
Any recommendations for sizes (I have the stock 205/55-16s on mine) and/or brands that work well and will fit properly?
Thanks in advance!

If you don't mind the tire noise, you can go for Pirelli. They perform well on snow, but they're alot noisy than my friend's Arctic Alpin or Toyo.
BTW, welcome to the club.

I'm using Artic Alpine and I think there great. I have Blizzaks an my Acura and they wear out too fast........
I strongly recommend that you get the Artics......

I have Blizzack MZ01 tires on my car. They work very well. For more information about tires, including reviews and ratings visit http://www.tirerack.com

If you don't drive in snow all winter long, but mostly have slush and ice, or even a lot of dry roads in the winter, I'd recommed an H-rated winter tire.
I bought a set of Blizzak LM-22 tires (205/55-HR16) last winter for my GTI and they were great. We also plan to install a set of Dunlop Winter Sports on our S4 Avant. I've read good things about these on Audiworld.com. Two others are the Pirelli Winter 210/240 Snowsport and the Michelin Pilot Alpin.

Many thanks! And especially for the warm greetings!!!
I haven't been this excited in a long time, and look forward to NOT cracking up my new treasure in the snow, so this is a big help. I wore out a set of Blizzaks quickly on my old RX-7, so I'm thinking the Artics sound like the way to go here.
I know that the diameter of the Blizzaks was different (larger), even when the sizes and aspect ratio were supposedly the same. I'll have to check tirerack.com to see if this is also true of the Artics when compared with the stock GTI tires and what they recommend.
Thanks again. You folks know how to make a guy feel welcome!

my best advice would be to get a set of dedicated steelie for winter. About 100 bucks from the tirerack. Also, downsize to 15 inch rims, they will be better in the snow and you will have less chance of killing things on the frost heaves.
