red black starter wire turns to red at clutch pedal sensor??

Well, I had a nice kick in the pants this afternoon. Was hoping to get my car started...but apparently the lame ass Bentley manual is just plain wrong. In the clutch section is says that cars from May of 1996 onward had the clutch pedal depresed sensor so that you can't start the car without the clutch pedal pressed in.
My wiring harness and engine are from a '95 Jetta GLX...but it looks like maybe it had this feature. Is this possible? The red black starter wire runs into a little black 2 pin plug that also has a solid red wire coming out of it...is this the plug for the clutch pedal sensor?
Thanks.

Hey..
Ran into the same problem during my swap.. A3 bentley is junk.. esp for the vr6's.. that 2 pin connector is your clutch sensor.. jumper those two and your engine will then crank with the key.. anything else??
