Reliability on your vehicle.

Let's hear it: Mileage and repairs.

For my A3 2.0 Jetta with 117,000 miles: Clutch had to be replaced and exhaust had to be replaced. That's it.

1994 Accord DX coupe: 77,200 miles, i go by the severe service schedule. No problems other than the "suffering by improvement" inflicted by the modifications.
1989 Accord LXi Coupe: 176,430 miles, timing belt/water pump/ plugs cap and rotor, oil changes every 2500. Thats it.

[EDIT: We fixed the 'glitch']

Damn, a timing belt every 2500 miles?

137k on the 9000 now, doing 2500 mile oil changes. Just got a new clutch (TO bearing shattered somehow), the exhaust is new and it'll need new front rotors soon.

Re: Reliability on your vehicle. (Y2KRICEBOY)

The GTI: 41,000 miles, had to replace a clamp on the fuel line coming off the fuel pump. Leaking gas- not good. It would leave a nasty little puddle under the back of the car. The window washer tank had a crack in it, would leak all the fluid out. A little sealant across the crack fixed that.
The wife's '98 Outback w/ 49k had to in for a recall- the CV boots were packed with the wrong grease at the factory. Other than that, nothing.
The Bug- well, that's another thread.
Wow, you guys doing oil changes every 2500, seems like overkill. I change mine about every 5-5.5k. I use Syntec in the VR6- it seems to have a large oil capacity and good filtration, doesn't get too black between changes, so I don't see the need to do it more often. You guys really think it's necessary?

2001 gti glx (47k):
replaced 2 driver's side window regulators in first 25,000mi
coolant leak at 26,000
broken sunroof switch (the closed position of the switch didn't actually have the sunroof closed, but turned a little past closed and it was fine. This fixed itself after about a month--go figure).

On a turbo it's not overkill when you're using regular fossil juice. I don't know what Y2KRICEBOY's excuse is.
Clean, fresh oil is key to turbo life. I'm considering a 4000 mile interval with a change to synthetic.

I have a stack of repair bills three inches high. I honestly lost count.
The specialness of the car is gone...its more of a love hate relationship now. A lot of this car's failings are embarassing...."You have ANOTHER airbag light on?"

Now that you mention that, I think mine is stuck open. I see a waterpump in my future as well

Makes sense.
These oil change places (Jiffy Lube, Quick 10, etc) preach the 'change your oil every 3k' and a lot of people buy into it. Most owners manual say something like 7-7.5k, or 3k under 'severe driving conditions'. I guess some of it depends on how you interpret 'severe driving conditions'. If you tow a trailer or live on a dirt road or drive the piss outta your car every time you get in it- well...

Currently
97 GTI VR6 @ 53,000 Miles or so.
Routine Maintenence.. been very good.
Recently Changed Coil Pack but that's it! Been dead reliable otherwise...
Edit>> Forgot something, the Stock CD Changer. I had it replaced like 3 times when I bought the car which cost nothing under warranty. I eventually replaced with the used clarion unit (100$) and have been happy.

Re: Reliability on your vehicle. (Silly_me)

'91 Civic Si:
1) Water pump ~ 160k
2) Battery ~ 140k
3) Distributor assembly ~ 215k
4) Front rotors ~ 218k
5) Pads ~ twice
6) All windows ~ stone chips and stereo-hungry bastages!
7) Fuel filter, Charcoal canister ~ 218k
8) Exhaust ~ 140k
9) Shocks & Springs ~ 218k
10) Misc bulbs
11) Plugs ~ 100 & 200k
12) Timing belt ~ 100 & 200k
I'm around ~ 220k right now and I NEVER use Honda dealer maintenance... think it's a ripoff.
'96 Z24:
1) Water pump ~ 125k
2) Clutch master cylinder ~ 150k
3) Battery ~ 165k
4) Pads ~ once
5) Front right hub ~ 130k
6) Struts & springs ~ 80k (more for perfomance)
7) Fuel filter ~ once
8) Misc bulbs
9) Blower resister module ~ 175k
10) Something about my half my head lights not working?? ~ soon
11) Plugs ~ 100k
I'm around 175k right now.
Both cars get regular Dino juice averaging 6.5k. Both burn 1 qt between changes. Both get ~34-36mpg. Can't believe I haven't replaced a clutch yet... <KNOCKING ON WOOD-VENEERED DESK>. I do my own maintenance unless it's cold or have no tools.

Same here.
And I do all the minor repairs myself.
What's the deal with the air bag light
. Everyone I know that owns a VW with more than 20k miles has the air bag light stuck on. Isn't there a law that any malfunctioning safety equipment is suppose to be repaired free of charge by the manufacturer?

My excuse? I work at a honda dealership. Free oil changes.
