Removal of door bumper rub strip things

What is involved in removing the bumper rub strip things on the doors? I think this would give the car a much cleaner look. Has anyone done this? What will I find if I start pulling them off?

You will find about 8 holes under each rub strip! Bodyshop will have to fill the holes and smooth everything out then repaint all the doors! Expensive I think!

Nevermind. I thought it might just be glued on.

You could also replace the strips with silver (chrome?) strips that come on some Bora's. http://www.volkswagen.de/bora/boraspec.htm

Not sure "tacky" is where he wanted to go here. "Chrome" would be real tacky.

The holes need to be tig welded by a proffesional with a lot of patience because if they over heat the metal the door will warp and then your out of luck. But when its done right and carefully it is indeed a very clean classy look
