I removed mine to find the ugly surprise of PRIMER under 1/3 of the decal on the right rear door. WTF? So now I get to source replacement decals/decal material to reinstall it.

That's Lucaq's car.......I think it looks much cleaner w/o the trim, no matter what color it is.

Frau Helga - My late, great '85 Jetta. I peeled that black sticker off from between the windows years ago. I wish I had taken better care of this car; it rotted out due to my negligence, and now I'm building a Golf with its guts...

Re: remove the black window trim on a jetta? (Jimbo70)

Any ideas on how to remove them without hurting the paint?
Re: remove the black window trim on a jetta? (1987&2001Jettas)

Doesn't the trim help keep the water from running down into the door? I know that the doors have drain holes, but I thought that the trim helped to keep the water out.

I beg to differ on this. I like the balck stripe there. I really goes good when the windows are tinted. Like mine

But everyone has different taste, but my 1/2 cent worth

I think it looks much better on. Especially on a white or red car, which looks good with black accents.

wow.. took me awhile to figure out what you were talking about.. I think it looks good in the first picture. If you can revive the paint with some cleaners, then go for it! Looks "newer" it seems..
Re: remove the black window trim on a jetta? (FiveAinOne)

That, actually, is a problem on my Atlas Grey GLI...paint's definitely a different shade under the black trim.
Related: Anyone know where I could source new black decals?

Here's what it looks like on a red car.

This thread is kinda funny, cause in the mk4 forum they've got one going about adding the black window trim

And it looks good on that wagon...dunno what I'd think on the sedan though. Wonder where you get that paint? I'd just as soon paint mine as fuss with the stupid decals.
Re: remove the black window trim on a jetta? (SeattleGLI)

haha hilarious!

I guess I'll just leave it
