Hey, I know people on here have taken their back seats out. I want to lose as much weight as possible for a rally-x this weekend. How big of a deal is it? Will it be easy to put them back in? What do I need for tools? Thanks a lot.

Re: Removing back seats (ig_88e)

I don't know if Golf rears are the same as the Jetta, but in my Jetta, there were two allen bolts for the bottom part, and for the top part all you have to do is fold the top down flat, and look on the side by the doors, all you need is a big screwdriver to open the clamps then the upper part of the seat can just be pulled out... I hope this helps.. This is if you have the rear bench and not the 60/40 split seat...

Re: Removing back seats (VRsixVW)

for the trouble, its not worth all that work to shave 20-25 lbs. in a 1/4 mile drag, its a good estimate to say for every 100 lbs you remove, you will reduce your time by .010 second. in your case, youre rally X or Auto X, youd probably want the little bit of extra weight in the rear to even out the weight distribution (especially in a golf/gti)

Re: Removing back seats (JetTAFLiTe)

Thanks, I'll look into just the same. btw, i have the 60/40 rear seat. I know it won't save me much but every little bit hleps. I figure if I can save 50 with the seats and spare tire then I'll be able to get the back around better (this is running with an almost empty gas tank). Thanks guys.
