Removing gage console?????

488 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  deathhare
I know this can't be as difficult as it seems. I spent an hour last night trying to get the frickin thing out and it wouldn't go. I know what is stoping it. The dam speedometer cable is in the way but the area is so tight I can't get behind the console to disconnect it. I am a graphics guy and am going to make some custom gage faces, but I need to get it out first. If you help me out I'll let you see what I have designed. Thanks for the help...

Re: Removing gage console????? (cabbed-out)

There is no trick involved. You simply have to reach with your hand up under the dash and fit it carefully in between the stuff under there abd unscrew the connection by hand. Done it several times as I've done dash swaps on some of my cars. Just took one out last week. Be patient, if you can't get to it, call a friend and see if they can do it. Sometimes frustration makes things seem even harder.

to ease the access, you will need to remove the lower dash panel (by your knees).. 2 8mm I think
next, pull the air ducting out... remember which way it goes back in.
next, squeeze your hand up in and unscrew the cable.. hopefully it's been done before because they put this red plastic stuff on that will crack to notify the dealer that it has been tampered with... no problem... Just makes it easier to get off if it has already been cracked.

Another way of doing it that ive sometimes done when it was really pissing me off is to pull the other end of the speedo cable out of the tranny. Then the gauge cluster will pull out enough from the dash to unhook the cable. Put it back in reverse order. Its one bolt holding the cable in the tranny. Good luck. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
