ok, got chrome handles....want to put them in.....now...i tried my manual...it says just put a screwdriver in there and press locking clip and just slide them out, but that isn't working so well.....so i took of the paneling around the handle....what do i do now? there are the little retaining clips (copper colored lil circle thingies) and they move if you push them...anyways, it says depress retaining locking clip or something and just pull the handles str8 forward and they slide out, im not finding it to be that easy.....was wondering if someone could help, also give me the following steps after that if they have them
THANKS!!

Re: removing inside door handles (98vwgti)

Sorry dude, I don't have any info on installing the door handles, but I was wondering where you got them and how much. I'm assuming you mean the chrome inside door handles, right? Thanks.
Re: removing inside door handles (98vwgti)

When i took my handles off my CL there was a metal pin running down the middle of the handle. That had to come out before the handle would even move. That could be your problem
yeah those copper coloured things are one big piece that runs throught the entire handle, get it out of there!!!!

Re: removing inside door handles (iamdoingthat)

well after a chat with golfkid i got them in..... if you guys do get them and want some instructions....here's what i did step by step...
1) pull off side view mirror adjustor knob and get a smaller sized flat head screw driver and gently pry off the plastic outer shell (you kind of half to feel your way through it and you can feel the locks pop, and give)
2) pull off the outer shell then look for a skinny lil bronze locking pin rod...stick the small screwdriver from underneath get it to come up a little and get some pliars and to squeeze the rounded part (so you can push the whole road out the other end without the wider tips gettin stuck) do everything you can to NOT bend the rods or break them (like i did) everythin worked out ok but you should try to get them back in the way they originally were....anyways....3) after you get it out stick the screwdriver in there and pop the handle off the two plastic nubs (top n bottom) pull the handle out a ways....and use the pliars to get the locking hook out of the hole (this part might take some time and effort) then use the pliars to hold the hook out and get it on the hole of the new handle get it back on the nubs and GENTLY try to put the rod back down the slide (this is where i messed up) i applied too much pressure and the got too bent to put back in....the nubs seem to hold the handle in place well enough tho. anyways, then pop the shell back in and force that rear view knob back on. Hope that will help you guys who are waiting for yours in the mail, as my bentley manual didnt help AT ALL.
