Re: Replacing ignition switch (1993jetta GL)

yeah the switch is about $10 and the lock cylinder is about $35. The dealer might be installing a new lock cylinder bracket and then the golden labor rate for the VW tech that always leaves a car better than they got it is priceless

I'm not sure but it wouldn't surprise me but I went and checked here http://www.vwparts.com/partlist.cfm?subcategory=171 and they usually have good prices. I haven't had to install a new switch yet.

Re: Replacing ignition switch (G60ING)

Oy folks.
I finally got my Corrado running. It isn't pretty, but the motor is running great. Unfortunately it appears the ignition switch is shot. I'm getting no voltage to the starter when I turn the key.
Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to change the switch? Has anyone done this yet?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Replacing ignition switch (PedroGringo)

It's very easy, I changed my in 15 minutes.
All you gotta do is take the steering wheel off, unscrew the 3 or 4 screws(can't remember) that hold in the turn signal and MFA stalks, unplug the 4 harness connectors to the stalks. Insert the key and turn key to unlock the bracket. Once you pull off the bracket, you can get to the screw that screws in the ignition switch. It might be hard to pull that bracket off because the lock may not fully disengage. If this happens, just pull the lock cylinder off by turning the key to 'ignition on' position and turning it back and pulling on the key at the same time; this maneuver will pop the lock cylinder out so that you can just stick your finger(or screw driver, can't remember, it's been awhile
) into the cylinder hole to fully disengage the lock by hand. good luck!
remember to reconnect your horn and align your steering wheel when putting it back together.
