Requesting assistance of a Toyota nature...

782 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  DonL
Since my sister's divorce, I've been helping her safe money by caring for her `yota pickup (`90 V6 4WD), and a couple things have come up requiring a bit more than an R&R or basic preventative nature. Is there a site like the Vortex that anyone could steer me to that I could get some more in-depth info? A quick Yahoo search found toyotaoffroad.com, but otherwise wasn't very encouraging.
Many thanks in advance for any other leads.

What type of problems are you having?? I work for Toyota and i could always try to find out if there were any recalls or bulletins for the truck- sometimes those help- i know the headgasket was recalled on the truck not exact on which years
- but i'd need the VIN # to look it up for you....just let me know!!
I'll be happy to help

I don't want to be chastised for wasting people's time asking Toyota repair questions on a Volkswagen bulletin board.

But, since the moderator doesn't seem to mind...

I figured a couple things out by taking a few things apart, finding, and fixing the problems. The last thing I'm not entirely sure about sounds alot like a typical VW problem, of all things.
The HVAC fan won't run on the two highest speeds. The switch seems to be okay, from what I can tell, so I'm guessing that there may be a resistor pack hidden somewhere that needs replacing. Trying to find one would take alot more disassembly than I was able to get in today, but if I can be certain that there is one somewhere, I'll start digging.
Any thoughts from the peanut gallery? And thanks for the link, Cowboy.

Well, thanks to the Cowboy for pointing me in the right direction. Some digging came across confirming that the problem is, indeed, a resistor pack, as well as the part number for both early "2-wire" and later "4-wire" packs as well as dealer prices.
You guys rock. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
All I have to do now is get the pack, track down a bodgered wire that's knocking out the instrument lights, and get this thing back to her. Not a bad truck at all, reminds me very much of my old Nissan, rather classic Japanese small truck construction. I'm not saying that's good or bad, just different than the Dubs I've grown used to.

Even though I won't be getting a little action figure that looks like a shriveled midget...
