Dude, that's one of the first things I did. It sounds sweet... and the car felt a little more nimble (always wanted to use that word). Goahead DO IT! all the big kids are doin' it(insert peer pressure here).

"nimble"??!!!!
Since when do exhaust components effect handling.
I don't think "nimble" means what you think it means.

i think most people remove the "suitcase" (look under there and you will know what i'm talkin about...looks almost like another fuel tank or something).

Yes, remove the suitcase muffler, best $60 I ever spent. You can't miss it, it is huge and sits right by the rear axle (parallel to it). I'll eventually get a true system but until then this is great and it lets me spend money on other mods.

Re: resonator removal... (late_apex)

See...I'm not afraid to say that I went as ghetto as ghettolly possible. Soon after taking delivery of the car, I hacked off the muffler. Was really kind of a joke. We were sitting around and decided to try out the new Sawzall. Cut through like buttah. Was gonna get a TT setup but now Im just chillin with a burly sound. Looks kinda wild with no muffler under there. I did weld a small pipe on there in order for the fumes to clear the car. Im thinkin about hooking up a Folgers can under that bad dog. But only the Dana Brown signature series exhaust will do.

All this talk of suitcase removal makes me wanna run out and chop off that damn thing!...A temporary solution to the long term problem...at least till I get my TT exhaust in like June, lol

Re: resonator removal... (shftat6)

I always wanted to remove the midmuffler("suitcase"), but scared that it is gonna be to loud...?????
I removed my resinator in front of the cat, and really didn't notice a real difference, just the fact that it is a little louder when first started on cold mornings.... I thought it would let the car breathe better... I guess it does..........
(can't remember.... installed exhaust and removed resinator 2nd day I got the VW)
Should i get rid of the suitcase????????
Will it let the car breathe better????????????
Will it effect emmisions??????????
(off topic)Will the GIAC chip effect emmisions????(I want one) http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Thanx....

So once the suitcase is removed what is put in it's place, just a plain piece of pipe? I just got my VR6 a few months back, hopped under there a few days ago and noticed that thing (suitcase) was rusted like crazy!

Re: resonator removal... (vdubbed)

its just a pipe. your car will burble. i did this with my techtonics exhaust and it has that ferrari like harmony between 3.5k to 5k rpms. do it do it.

Re: resonator removal... (Majik6)

Just got back from having mine removed......... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Its great! Very nice even tone, with no blaaat. There is a little bit of vibration around 3k rpm, but i just feel more in tune with my car. It definately breathes better. They just replaced the muffler with a piece of pipe that took him a few tries to bend it right. If you have it done, make sure when they go to weld the pipe in, that your tips are straight. I supervise all work done on my car, and thankfully caught him in time before my tips were crooked and pointing at the ground! That suitcase muffler weighs around 20lbs! Now with my modded airbox, lightened flywheel, and exhaust, my tach practically flops around cause it revs so easy! Go get it done right now......only cost me $40.
