Just came into some money and I am interested in restoring my black 84 GTI to mint condition.
Would like to get it painted, and have the dents/minor rust spots taken care of. What is a ballpark
price of having it done? Also if anyone has a recommendation of someone in the Houston, TX area it would
be appreciated.
Secondly, my idle keeps jumping up to 2000 rpm. I adjust it back to 1000 rpm but every time I wind it out
it eventually creeps up to 2000 rpm. Any suggestions? Keep in mind that I am mechanically challenged.
Thanks

Re: Restoration & Idle Question (84gti4me)

Don't know about the body-work however, it seems likely that your idle adjustment screw is loose and backing out as you drive. A pretty common A1 problem. Replace the little rubber washer in there with a new one from the dealer (or the harware store if you can find a close match)- problem gone.
