Road trips

Okay, I do not bash my car for it's tendancy to be a bit ummm not-so-reliable. But, I have this fear of traveling too far from my house/mechanic in my car, as I can see myself stranded in Bum****, Maryland with a blown *insert part here*.
So, am I the only one who suffers from this phobia and to what extent?
Yes, this is total b/s, but who cares?

Completely understandable. Going like 75+ and the engine chillin' at like 3500 rpms for long periods of time kinda gets your worried.
BTW, don't knock MD.
I live in VA, where are you going though?

Re: Road trips (NeedSLCBad)

My buddy goes to school at Lynchburg, so a trip from CT to VA is a bit unnerving.
I think I'm gonna go rental when I go...lol
Re: Road trips (NeedSLCBad)

You take good care of your car though right?
I took my car two years ago to florida in the summer time,
minus the 280 oil temps it did the trip fairly well.
I am sure that some of the vortexers down south a bit would
help you out if you get stuck.
Either that or they would be happy to baby sit your car

3M Imperial Hand Glaze does a wicked TEMPORARY job on dark cars. Niko (niels) did an amazing job of remedying the oxidation on his red 'Rocco, you may want to look him up.
Re: Road trips (NeedSLCBad)

Ive been to VT and back five times, its like 200 miles round trip, no problems, smooth.
Re: Road trips (NeedSLCBad)

i drive up to michigan alot in the summer in my c, never any probs. only time i have probs (EVER) is on the way home from my girlfriends house or a dead battery in my garage, so it aint that bad
Re: Road trips (vdubin90)

Granted my $hits busted (takin a nap in my garage) I would truss it to go anywhere. Last summer I drove a few trips to WVU to visit friends, a trip to Vermont, and many trips to NYC.
Even when I broke an axle at Waterfest ppl offered to help me fix it the next day, I was just too drunk to wake up and meet em the next morning.
Re: Road trips (CorradoKidd)

Anything farther than a 45mi radius from my house gets me a little worried.

I am used to 370 miles straight in the C every month or so from Albany to ME... I cant say that I have a sense of security watching the MFA tell me the slipperies are runnin' 240deg F though...

I have the dead battery in my garage problem, and I haven't started my car since October. Storage is nice for winters, but not nice for batteries. Yeah, I probably should start my car sometime soon.

Re: Road trips (fahrfrumlosin)

What's a decent range for oil temps???? Everybody seems to being seeing 240 degrees +. Mine runs around 220 for the most part, and my coolant temps stay under 190, unless I'm in traffic.

Re: Road trips (bigsquirrel)

220 city driving - Winter
240 hwy driving - winter
228-234 - city driving summer
240-250 - hwy driving summer (i've seen 292 at 95mph constant on a 80-90 degree day)
