I've had my 2001.5 Passat since June. I noticed last week that the rubber strip along the bottom of driver's side door is starting to split apart. I am guessing that it will be covered by the warrantee. If so, then the dealer should/might replace it.
However, I have a feeling this would only be a temporary fix as it will probably split again. Does VW have a fix for this or are there after market rubber strip solutions that may be sturdier and hold up better.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing, but I have noticed on many B5s that there is a butt joint in the rubber where you have described on the driver side. Some are more pronounced than others, either way, it's not a very clean butt joint. Then again, does it need to be? Is this what you meant by "split apart"?

This a picture of what the rubber strip. Any suggestions what to do to prevent this from happening again. Maybe I need an after market part or maybe VW dealer has a fix. Would appreciate you input as to what to do. Thanks!

Wow, thanks for the pic. That's not at all what I was thinking of. You probably wanna get that taken care of. Have you tried some rubber glue as a temporary measure?
