Rubbing compound?

I just bought some turtle wax rubbing compund...supposedly this will help to revitalize the original paint on my '79 Scirocco so I can wax it to more of a shine with less scratches and haze? Is this accurate?

I wouldn't do that...I would do a full hand detail job...it will make your car look like new.
