We first heard about the upcoming 4.0T FSI several years ago from a highly-placed source as a likely candidate for future S8, S6, S7 and even RS variants as Audi downsizes out of V10s. We've even written about it several times ( HERE , HERE , HERE , and HERE ). Bentley even confirmed their own intent to use the motor in their Paris press release about the latest Continental GT (also linked above) though there's been no official word on power figures.

While nothing's been officially confirmed (yet), AutoCar has run their own news/rumor story this week saying their own sources at Bentley say there will be at least two versions of the 4.0T. According to AutoCar, their "well placed source" in Crewe says there'll be a 415 bhp single turbo version and a 555 bhp twin turbocharged version...

I hate any engine that replaces a V10. This engine therefore sucks and hope it pukes out its pistons. :p

Loving the car, until I saw the front fender lines going to the side of the car. Not crazy about them in the picture. But that might change once I see it in person.. But still will give it a 9/10 on looks!

The Bentley part doesn't compute...why build a twin turbo V8 that matches the power output of the twin turbo W12 if efficiency is the reason for it's creation? And a single turbo V8 with 415hp doesn't exactly sound inspiring when it's pulling nearly three tons.

More efficient and less costly. Plus this will allow for an "entry" level Continental GT.

While its definitely heavy, its not nearly 3 tons. Curb weight is around 5000-5100 lb.

That single turbo will be torquey anyway, it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Judging by this, S6 and (probably) S7 will have 408 hp
A8 4.0T will have a 420 hp version
S8 will have a 520 hp version.

For european members, probably a more exciting development is the confirmation of a 3.0 biturbo TDI with 313 hp in the new A6 :)
