My 1994 golf runs fine all day around town. I could let it idle for an hour and the fans come on and the temp guage never gets past halfway.
I can also drive around at 55 and it stays around the center point on the temp guage.
Now the minute i drive to 85 or 90 mph it overheates to 230 in a few seconds (a/c on or off makes no difference)
if i pull over and stop it's down to normal midway on the guage in just a minute or so.
Anyone know what it could be?
as well no coolant is leaking at all - and it's full

Re: Running hot at high speeds? (sanjay69)

Might be some kind of thermostat weirdness... you can pretty much rule out a head gasket or the fan switch. BUMP
