Well, by the sounds of it VW is not going to be able to bring me my JET GLX 6Speed, for some dumb reason they want to only sell it with the
Tiptronic...Anyways I may just get my deposit back.
What do you all think of the S2000? I can get a very good deal from my work on one together with an excellent finance rate...I am looking at
a brand new 2001 S2000 Grey on red leather...4kms on it...it rolled off the truck 3 months ago and since has been sitting in the showroom. I
am very seriously thinking of buying it....What do you all think?? No flames please just cuz its a Honda...
Peace

I love it... but it is one of the les practical everyday driver cars available.
It is a fun car to drive fast... but in town in bumper to bumper traffic it is a pain.
But you get chicks!

I think he means it's been sitting in the showroom not literally rolled in an accident.

Performance wise it kicks ass!
If you really wring it out it will perform... but be careful... just because it's a Honda doesn't mean that the little screamer motor is bullet-proof.

It's pretty much a race-car. You gotta drive it like you hate it to get it to go fast, not very practical, yada, yada. Great weekend toy if you ask me.

Re: S2000.....Impressions please....I MAY BUY ONE (RJetta8V)

I'm buying one. Probably a black on black and definitely I'm picking up a 2002 for the glass rear window.
They're a total blast to drive, rwd, shifter is awesome, 9000rpm is insane and the roof comes down. What else do you need?

edit: BTW, I noticed you're in Ontario. I haven't put down a deposit yet because the new budget is released this week, and there may be a possibility that the GST is suspended on new car purchases, so wait a few days and see. Keeping fingers crossed . . .

I'm sure the S2000 is an excellent driving car, I wouldn't know because no matter how I adjusted the seat, I couldn't get in a position where my left kneecap wouldn't hit the bottom of the steeringwheel, and I'm only 6'1".
Oh, have fun with the car up in Ontario.

Re: S2000.....Impressions please....I MAY BUY ONE (Tugz_Vr6)

um before I answer answer these questions:
1) Do you race (autox, road race, drag race, street race) ?
2) if yes to #1: if you drag race, buy a muscle car, if you street race buy a motorcyle (you live just as long and go faster), if you road race:buy it, if you autox and your courses allow you to wind up:buy it, if you have technical courses buy the mr2 spyder, has more low end, less vehicle weight and will save you about 10K.
3) if no to #1, please explain what you want your car to do for you ? (commute, cruise and look pretty....)
The s2k is a wonderful car from what I have seen and read, its lack of torque is disheartening and the factory clutches maybe the weak point do to the thrashing you need to do keep the car in the sweet spot. If you have patience: the 350Z for 30K and the rx8 for just under 40K will both be here next year and are aimed directly at boxterS and s2000 performance...
Since your original choice was a GLX, which is a pretty posh car you are changing the rules when buying a honda are you sure thats what you wanted ? I think the glx compares more closely to the following cars: integra rsx-s, prelude(last years), a4, 3-series, is300 all of these are between or close to the glx and the s2k in price.
Cheers

Re: S2000.....Impressions please....I MAY BUY ONE (REDMR2T)

I would keep it as a definate cruising car, and occasionally take it to the road course a 3-4 times a year. I would keep the car for a very long time, possibly keep it as my collectable...
Like I said, I could get a really good deal from my work with low financing. Put it this way, i can get it close to cost price.
VW will not offer me that. The best rate VW finaceing could give me is 8.25%

I am very sorry aboput your V6 4motion ordeal, but hey, I wouldnt mind the s2000 if I was in your shoes. But for me, it costs AUD$11,000 more for it so I passed it.

Re: S2000.....Impressions please....I MAY BUY ONE (Tugz_Vr6)

the honda will last you thats for sure. it will also be very capable on a road course, cruising is good as well, as long as your not street racing, if your not in the right gear at the right rpm: 2800lbs is hard to move quickly with only 153lbs of torque at 7000rpm, I would be sure your comfortable with this on test drives, put it in 5th(maybe even fourth) at about 45 and punch it. if it goes then a marraige is born, if it bogs you be the judge...
I may get one myself for autox duty. the clutch worries me. also its so tuned that mods(short of a s/c) may actually slow this car down.
Good luck...

Tugz: A friend of mine has an s2000 and I drove it once. It is a tad small inside but normal for a roadster. I fit inside the closed top even with a helmet on and im 6-2. The car is fast. it loves to revs and the engine is VERY smooth. The tranny is a dream and the clutch is not hard at all. I really like the way it looks and if you dont mind te impractical aspects of it youll like the car. The handling is just INSANE, very intuitive and responds sooo well to the throttle when on a turn itll make u smile
It is also a pretty good cruiser and capable of over 150 mph no prob. It also has VERY strong resale value and its realiable

Re: S2000.....Impressions please....I MAY BUY ONE (alphaDUB)

quote:

what kind of mods are available for it? I recently saw one on a website that had a SC and other stuff, like 280 hp but forgot what site it was.

Due to low production numbers, the aftermarket is taking its time with mods, but Comptech SC is good for about 340hp. Vortech is releasing an intercooled SC that should make a little more. There are 3 turbo kits coming to the market, along with a 2.4l stroker kit and even ported and polished heads and intake manifolds. The big question right now is the cams - there is still development work to be done on them. Most of the stuff is being developed by owners rather than corporations. Just look at this brake kit one of the owners developed. Sweetness!

How do you not fit? I have a friend, 300 lbs, 6'3". He owns an '88 MR2 and a '91 MR2 and fits into them with no problem.
Anyways...Tugz_VR6, I'm going with what Alfafan said...
