First off, I've been reading this forum for about 6 months now, but I just now finally registered.
Anyways,
On the way back from school I spotted an S8. I wasn't even aware they made these. Or did this guy just put an S badge on his car?
I am not sure how Audi names their models, but this model is at least a couple generations old. Did Audi ever make an S8 for any other generations? Also, do they have plans for an S model for the current A8?

I almost NEVER see A8s ... I probably saw about two back in San Diego ... but all the more reason to like them, if I had a choice I'd take an A8/S8/whatever over an S-class or 7 series easily, the styling is just as nice and they're rare http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The New A8 is starting to become more and more common - the old modle can still be seen frequently in LA (I plan on buying one when I gradutate from law school)

it has a 4.2 liter V8 with 360 hp and 317 (iirc) lb-ft of torque
it'll run 0-60 in the high 5, low 6 second range (for people who care about such things) and a mid 14s in the 1/4

Yep. And also keep in mind while you watch it that the actor playing the role of the driver did all of his own driving/stunts!

That's not true - in the scene at night where they are driving through the city the had a professional driver (I think it was an ex-F1 driver) do some of those scenes and the director comments in the audi commentary about how he hit the exact same spot every single take

Yeah, those scenes were very very complex from the sound of it.
For some of those shots, they had a car with the actual driver sitting BEHIND the cabin!
Deniro wanted to drive the car himself but as usual, noone wanted to take a risk in case he'd crash on the speeds over 100km/h and kill himself.
Anyways, the S8 is an absolutely amazing car. So much presence, but I wouldn't want to own one unless I was a millionare. It is very very expencive to own.
