If you can easily lift the the door an inch or so when it's open, you need to replace one or both of the hinges and pins, the bushings are worn. If they are okay, the washer thing will work for you, so will the jack and block of wood.

We all know that A1 owners are cheap asses, so forget about buying new bushings/hinges and stuff (unless your doors are way screwed).

Park the car, open the door, and proceed to jack it up (with some wood between the door and the jack). If you go too high, have your chubby friend kinda lean on the door to get it back down where you need it. Once you get it pretty well lined up, you'll need to adjust the post in the doorjamb. Goodluck! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Actually, its the top hinge you want to shim, not the bottom.

Re: saggin' door fix w/ washer; HELP! (A1pocketrocket)

The rabbit I just got has a sagging driver's side door too. I am gonna try the washer fix for it, but was wondering about the latch thats on the body. My rocco has bigger latches than the rabbit. I got an extra set of the bigger, wider latches and wanted to know if they would also work on the rabbit and also help with the sagging door issue. The plastic on the existing latches on the gti are all worn out and the metal below is way thinner than the replacements I have. I could check it out myself by backing the latch out with a box wrench and putting the other one in, but wanted to ask here 1st. thanks

Re: saggin' door fix w/ washer; HELP! (Giovanni)

OK guys listen up....my door was sagging BADLY(note:WAS)...SO hard to shut. I open it up ALL the way and it bumps UP...weird. Cold mornings the doors is too HIGH(not sagging) and i have to push it down to shut it!! So i thought this was the sagging door problem...i was wrong....i open my door yesterday, and it goes WAY up...comes back down FAST and is sagging about 2 inches from the ground. I take a look...low and behold the WELD of the bottom latch broke OFF! it took me and my buddy 45 minutes to get the door back onto the car and shut(so i can drive the damn thing, climb in and out of the passenger door)...Ill take some pics when i open the door again. Now im missing a decent chunk of paint, welding work to be done, and will probably have a door that never ever fits right after that
