The following ten States also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OK and OR.

Does anyone have any info on this car and what might have happened to it? I am assuming it was in a REAL bad wreck and the lady is just letting me a lie...

It could of been just bumped really bad and need a new front end. Get the car to a trusted mechanic and have him check Everything plus if possible get a body shop to look at front end to see any signs of what was replaced and if the frame is ggood

How do you know it was not repaired right? Not every salvaged title vehicle is repaired wrong. My freind had a repaired maxima that was like it never had a front end hit.

Go buy it then, but I dont want to hear any complaining when it rattles and makes noises as it "shimmys" down the road. the better question is......how do you know it was repaired correctly? is the car driveable? probably. but will it drive the way its suppose to? will it wear out tires unevenly no matter how well you align it? will the car crumple like tissue paper if you wreck it again? how about the air bags, will they still work properly? these are risks I am not willing to take! http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

thats why you go to the mechanic and body shop before you buy it. thats if you get the http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif from them. Plus what Golf/GTI does not have a rattle or noise in the cabin

that was my point, these cars rattle stock! imagine after some shoddy shop rebuilds the car.
a mechanic wont be driving the car for 20-30k miles, only time will tell if the car was rebuilt properly. but again, cars are totaled for a reason. it means the cost to repair was too great, or the car was deemed unsafe due to the wreck. like I said the risk is too great for me. but obviously some peep are willing to take the risk to save a dollar. not me http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
Oh, and these shops are not rebuilding these cars with quality parts folks, they are slapping it together as cheap as they can to sell and make profit. not hard to figure out whats going on here.

Re: Salvage Title 337...need some help! (Y2K So No Ma)

First of all have you seen pictures of this vehicle? Or do you know a person at the salvage yard well enough to describe the vehicle to you? Because this very well may not be a 337. All 2002 GTI Silver 1.8T's are reported to Carfax as 337/Anniversary additions. There is no way by VIN to tell if this is a 337 or just a crashed GTI.
Second. A car is deamed totalled when the cost to repair exceeds the value. Some insurance places go by wholesale. This means the car's wholesale is about 15-18 and the damnage to it exceeded that much. I was bumped in the rear and had to have my hatch and drivers side rear quarter replaced. All together it cost about 9G.. This vehicle has had damage to it to exceed that by ATLEAST 6 grand. Is that something you want to deal with?? Expectially when you haven't even looked at it yet?. Personally unless you are getting it at an EXTREMELY great price I'd leave it alone and try and find something closer to you.
Just my .02.

If a vehicle is repossessed from its owner. its a loss to the insurance/financing company, then the car is sold at auction, since it was a loss (ie they couldnt get the owner to make the payments) it gets a salvage title... It is possible that the car was never wrecked, just repossessed. Get it checked out !!!

This is probably a car that more than one teenager got ahold of.

I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole, but man I'd be interested in certain parts. This is for sale, right? Not a good investment if you ask me. Look on Ebay for 337's, I think there are a few if you want one. There are probably some that are in excellent condition, maybe even a few mods.

And don't trust Carfax to give you all the info. I was in 2 accidents in my Passat (got rear-ended both times). First time was about $8K, second time $3K. When I went to sell my car I got a Carfax report and it showed up as having "no accidents". Both times the car was fixed at a VW dealer.

Re: Salvage Title 337...need some help! (EZ)

Yeah I am not going to buy it...I live in Jacksonville, FL so Im not about to fly up to Portland, OR just to check out the car...There is just to many situatuions that could have happened..best being it was repossed and given a salvage title or worse was wrecked REALLY bad and they just bolted it back together with the pieces they could find on the road...lol
It was listed for $14,999...to bad it was a salvage title...that would have been a hell of a find if not! lol Thanks everyone!
