I bought another MK2 as the one on the first 4 pages of this thread wasn't saveable for me. New pictures and so on on page 4.

Hi guys!

I just bought this 1983 MK2 CL. Engine is a 1.3 55hp with carbs, brown/beige interior.
Almost no rust as far as I've seen, but some areas have been repainted, looks better on the pics as it really is.
My plans so far:
Fix it to get new TÜV (main inspection)
Lower it
Put some wheels on it (Retro Rotas?)
Maybe historic plates next year

It's ridiculous how clean that is, I love the colour too. Great base for what could be a really nice MK2.

Now this won't hold as much weight coming from me because I have fake wheels myself haha, but I would suggest against rotas on that car. You're in Germany dude, you can probably find a nice set of actual retro schmidt/ borbet/ bbs etc. wheels and refinish them for the price of new rotas:thumbup:

Then again, Rota Shakotans would look really nice on that car :laugh:

Sadly it looks way better than it really is. The paint has been fixed on many places, but you don't see it on the photos. Plus the previous owner used more silicone in the interior than Lolo Ferrari ever had. My standards for it were low, as I didn't looked at it before getting it on Ebay for $260.
The good news are that I passed today the main inspection without defects. Only the rear brakes weren't equal and he said that the LCA bushings aren't the best anymore. :thumbup:

I'm not sure yet about coils. I believe those low and cheap coils like TA-Technix, JOM, Raceland are too stiff for my taste. I have DTS in my MK4, they ride great but don't go that low.

And regarding wheels... I want something that is not so common. I believe no one in Germany has ever put Rotas on a VW.
But I found 2 other wheels yet which would be a good alternative. Sadly the first one is a single copy. They are D&W, which was a big company in the 80s and early 90s. Every Friday is a meeting at their shop. I believe they're rebranded RHs.

The usage of model year isn't that common in Germany, we mostly use date of first registration, and that was in my case the 20th December 1983.
So they all were MY 1984, but some of them were registered in 1983.

Finally got the whole coils in. Height isn't bad for being at a still street legal level. Of course they will be lower with wheels.

Seek and you will find. The both front doors look sadly the same.

Rear seats need work as they're from a Corrado.

I try to find a brown interior in better shape than mine, ideally velours. :thumbup:

This car looks amazing! The color, the heckblende, and the rarity! That thing must get crazy good gas mileage!

I'm a bit pissed about the heckblende, I just found a new white/red on Ebay for just a bit more than I paid for mine. :/

I have no idea what I could get from the USA for my MK2 lol. Do you know if anyone else than BFI sells new single round badged 7 slat grilles? BFI don't have them in stock anymore and said they won't ship to Germany.
