Scirocco Sunroof in an early Rabbit - project update....

2482 Views 12 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  BVAMotorsports
I just got the sunroof completely assembled and in the car and the tilt and slide function seems to work great. I may need new cables (skips just a bit), but I'll replace the pinion first and see if that helps. It was a pain in the butt to get the assembly put back together after the bodyshop took it apart to paint the roof panel.
I have pictures of the whole assembly process, and I am finishing up the web page that talks about what to look out for, shows blow-up pictures from ETKA, etc. Should be done in a week or so.
Here are a couple of quick pics of how it looks in the car.

Damn, that looks good Dean.

Thanks man... I hope to have the whole body kit on it this weekend. I test fit the carpet and installed all of the windows this weekend (except the windsheild). I've been driving it around my block without a windsheild all weekend, people think I'm retarded
I'll post some pics this weekend hopefully of the progress.

LOL! We won't think you're a freak....unless you do it when it's raining.

Funny you should mention that.... remember when it was snowing a couple of weeks ago here in the Metro area? Well, that was the day I had to drive it home from the bodyshop... I really got some looks then. Of course as Murphy's law would have it, it snowed the hardest that it had all day those 15 minutes I drove home.

That looks really good. I wish I could fit one of those on the Caddy.

It actually turned out to be pretty easy. Just had to cut out a couple of small pieces and drill 4 new holes. I'll have the whole write-up done in a week or so.

In case anyone is wondering, I found out that you can get replacement cables for the Tilt&Slide roof, it appears that they are Audi4000 part number (they have been superceded apparently). Anyway, they cost about $50 each for the cables, and you have to get the superceded channels also, they are $66 each, so total looks to be about $230 (gotta love it). That will have to wait until summer.
