Searc is down...and I have a question about a clunk

Now and then, when turning into a driveway or going over a speed bump while turning the wheel, I get a clunk through the steering wheel. Nothing major like a motor mount...but it is bugging me. When the car was in for new front wheel bearings about 4 months ago the shop told me all the suspension bushings looked good...
Any ideas? The car is a '91 8v gti.

Oh yeah, five years of college and all I learned to do was bounce a quarter into a glass. Sorry about the spelling.

Try tightening down the notched nuts on top of the strut assy, also check for play in the sway bar, I had the same thing and it was my rear most bushings for the sway bar. You might want to tug on the tie rods a little and see if there's any lateral or vertical play in them. And jack up your car and have somebody yank on the wheel a bunch in every different direction you can think of (
) and see if your ball joints have play. hows that for food for though

I'm thinking ball joints also. I would notice a clunk when turning off the bump in my driveway before I changed mine. They were soooo shot.
