Pole position for the Toledo GT and Supercopa opening race victory for Guerrero
Today's race at Estoril was witness to an excellent result by the SEAT team. The magnificent effort made by the two Toledo GT units was rounded off by the performance given by the two Supercopa drivers in their first race.
Jordi Gené made the best time in the training round in his first time at the wheel of the Toledo GT, achieving a comfortable time of 1.41.166 and a first position in the starting grid of tomorrow's opening race.
Jordi Gené: "I think we have a shot at the podium, but a victory will be more difficult since we haven't had much time to get to know the car very well. Anyway, I'm happy with today's results and the performance of the Toledo GT".
Miguel Ángel de Castro and Balba González dominated the second session. Their Toledo GT clocked in at 1.41.589 and the event leaders also voiced their chance at a win.
Miguel Ángel de Castro: "The car runs perfectly and I feel we can achieve a good result again tomorrow. Our main objective is to consolidate our leadership at the championship".
Supercopa: Lucas Guerrero from start to finish
The driver from Valencia dominated the first SEAT León Supercopa race held this afternoon. After achieving the second best time in the official training rounds, Guerrero drove an impeccable race. Sitting next to Antonio Aristi on the first line of the starting grid, he took control of the race from the first to last lap, clocking in at 3.363 seconds over Alfredo Mostajo, who took second. Luis Miguel Reyes, the Supercopa leader, took third place.
Lucas Guerrero: "I'm extremely satisfied with my second Supercopa victory after last year's win in Albacete. I drove a good race because I managed to maintain a fast pace from the beginning without losing concentration. Mostajo and Reyes were hard on my heels, leaving no room for over-confidence. I didn't know how many laps were left 'til the end, so I decided to keep up a fast pace to avoid any problems".
The 14-lap second Supercopa race is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 12.40 pm.
