Talking with a dealer and hoping to schedule a test drive by flying down to a southern state.
Found a car that looks clean in and out with some higher miles. So it's looking like I am going down the road where I go with an older car and pocketing some money rather than making a lateral move. Waiting to hear back about placing a refundable deposit.

Hey guys didn’t mean to bail! I just booked the tickets to fly down next friday. Will call seller and ask to leave a deposit to hold the car until I arrive.
Obviously holding my cards as I want to keep this a surprise. I am well aware of the legendary detective work of the TCLers so any hint will give it away!

4 or 5 door?
Trip is cancelled, pulled the carfax and looked at it more closely and car was repossessed from the last owner. That didn't sit well with my gut.

Car in question was a MB C300.

The hunt goes ever onward. MK6 GLI and 328i are on hotlist.

Yep. Manual sedans are fairly rare in the later years though, and the sport package was also rare. An annoying amount of the 2009-2011 model years are sparsely equipped due to the recession.

Check this one out:

The only downside I see is that it doesn't have the trunk pass through option, but I like the color, sport package and xenons combo. Its also fairly low mileage, though a lot of maintenance stuff is due at the 100k mark.

For $10,000?

Ha!

It'd be wrecked, and be without an engine.
Isht, Rabbit could've sold his for $10K and still paid off half of that Eeguls GTI. For shame.

What are ATS 2.0T's going for these days? No idea on carseat compatibility, but its an awesome chassis with an available manual transmission.

Also, FWIW, I've got an E91 (same legroom as an E90) with a carseat in it, and our rear facing seat JUUUST fits. I'm not comfortable in the passenger seat with the car seat in, but my 5'5" wife is okay. We've got a Chicco Fit2.
I've owned an ATS since my son's birth, for reference I'm 5'10" and wife is 5'8".

In the bucket, in the middle seat, he fit fine. Birth to ~6mo.
In a rear facing seat, the passenger seat needs to be moved a long way forward to accommodate, to the point where really only my wife could sit in front of him. ~6mo to ~2yrs.
In a front facing seat, everyone has plenty of room.

The rear doors are very long and the rear door opening isn't huge; but it is do-able with some sacrifice.

I think that bending over and contorting myself to fit a child in the backseat of a two door would make me pretty unhappy pretty quick.
I did it with a 2dr gti and it was fine. The only extra step here is moving the seat forward. The doors are long enough you can access the back seats easy. But it is silly to buy a car based on this reason. Kids grow. They will be able to get into their seats on their own before you even know it.

That is why you lease till the kid is old enough to get in and out without damaging anything or getting it filthy.
So the next 18 years or so...

I did the same thing when I had my kid so I speak from experience. Let my wife get a 4dr sportwagen for this purpose since my GTI is a two door. It was pointless. By the time they can walk, they are climbing into the seat themselves. My kid is about to be 5 now and i take him in the GTI all the time. He has his own recaro seat in the back middle that he clambers up into by himself. In fact if I even help him get into it he gets mad, he wants to do it himself.

So the procedure is basically, open drivers door, pull latch on seat up and move forward he climbs in and we get going. Easy.

The other thing a lot of people dont think of when they go this route is that if you want your kid to be safest you have to put the car seat in the middle, regardless of how many doors you have. So if you get a 4 dr and put your kids seat in the middle you end up having to go through the same inconviences that you would with the 2 dr, bending over, reaching in, latching buckles etc.

What does everyone think of a first gen Porsche Cayenne 6MT?
I just checked one out on a website and in doing some initial sleuthing it doesn’t have the IMS bearing issue and the car is so far looking reliable if one is mechanically inclined.
Even though I didn’t want an SUV, I can see the comfort of a big SUV along with the fun of driving a stick shift. There has to be some cool points there!
