Funny thing about the SEMA Show. It may be the nation’s and maybe the world’s largest aftermarket industry trade show filled with truly impressive and insane builds, but we so rarely see the amazingly built earlier water-cooled Volkswagens on display… cars like Matt Vincent’s 1.8T-swapped Mk2 Jetta coupe.


Maybe the reason for the lack of cars like this Jetta is the flavor of the show. The event is held for product manufacturers to sell to the industry as a whole. This means products for the latest cars sold in mass quantities… and also restoration and reproduction parts for vintage cars with big followings in America. So, though the VW tuning scene may be big, it’s not quite as big as the market for… say… a ’69 Camaro.

Fortunately for Volkswagen enthusiasts, guys like Matt Vincent and companies like Toyo are still representing with this very clean Jetta. In fact, it was the only Mk2 we spotted on the scene at the Las Vegas Convention Center.


Matt was kind enough to supply us with a very detailed modification list. For those with A.D.D., we’ll give you the quick rundown. The paint on this shaved 2-door is Nimbus Grey from the Audi TT Mk1 era. Under the hood is a built 1.8T swap, while the car rolls with on H&R Ultra low coilovers, plus 17x8-inch fifteen52 Circuit alloys rolling… of course… on Toyos Extensa HPs in 205/40R/17 fitment.
