Shaved side moldings

Does my 86 Jetta have holes under the side moldings that would require filling? I want to ditch the moldings and the fender piece seems to be glued on. Is the door the same way? Thanks.

heat the edges of the moldings up with a hair dryer and use dental floss like a saw as tight as possible to the body. Then get some goo gone and a case of

and hope the adhesive is gone before the beer.
