Shaving/Painting tips

Ok guys, heres the situation, i have access to bondo and some other stuff that i could use to do some body work on my car..... My question to you guys is, what can i safly use bondo to shave.....IE. I don't want it to look all wavey in a year.
Im thinking about doing the VW Emblem, the bumper seams (with the flexing agent ofcourse), and the seam around the plate recess.
Any tips would be helpful. Thanks guys.

Well from what i have heard the best way to fill in the rear emblem is to actually weld in some metal. THats the way its done right
same with door moldings .
i think just filling it with "bondo" becomes a longevity issue. And as it is always said, Better to do it right the first time around. Its cheaper to do it once than twice.

the seem around the plate recess WONT work, it will crack everytime you shut your trunk lid, or hatch...so pretty much you could shave your eblem, and wiper, and probally de seam the bumpers, front may be a lil harder though.

What about fiberglass guys? For the emblem and wiper?

wouldnt do......i perosnally would only use metal to do any shaving
Re: Shaving/Painting tips (Euro Flavour)

Do not use just bondo. It will most likly crack before you get it to paint. Also for the emblem you must weld a plate very close to the surface and then gring the welds. Then use no more than a 1/16th of an inch of bondo.

Ok . . . what about shaving the rear wiper? Basically the same thing cut off that bump and weld in a plate then little bondo? Also has anyone done the washer nozzles on the hood . . . I hate the fact that they are black and the rest of the car isn't. Also I dont' see how you can use metal to fill in the seems on the plasic bumper . . . ?
Re: Shaving/Painting tips (1997 Golf GL)

Cut off the bump and weld a plate on the inside is ok I guess. Doing any kind of custom body work you take the chance of cracking or worse yet a moisture bubble. After my car was completly resprayed there was a bubble over one of my molded tailights. It was the size of a half dollar. All cased because I did the body work on a humid day. As for the seams in the bumper. Yuo need to get a plastic welder and slowlly fill in the seam. Then sand it smooth. A plastic welder if ytou dont know is basicaly a expensive torch and sticks of raw plastic.
Re: Shaving/Painting tips (turbo8v)

I am going to shave my bumper this winter
I am getting two bumpers to play with soon
the idea is to take two bumpers and make one
I looked into the plastic welder approach and was recomended against it
instead I was tould to use a two part caulk called PRUM
has any one done this I would like insight
thanks
