Shift cables melting without heatshields?

How likely is this going to happen?
I removed my heatsheilds that run under the car covering the exhaust because of rattling,...the mounting points were rusted away, and only one clip was holding the 3 pieces of heatshields together...
my console gets pretty damn hot, but im just worried about the shift cables...

the heat sheilding is there for a reason, why not just rivet it to the car to stop the rattling instead of removing it and possibly causing major damage.

I'd put the heat shields back on and find a way to keep them from rattling. I think you're only asking for problems by doing this.
