Mk3 = threaded
Mk4+ = non-threaded
Now technically speaking, you could do something drastic like mixing up some putty epoxy and sticking a glob on top of your threaded shifter rod and then setting the non-threaded knob down onto the epoxy on a day you weren't going to drive the car...
However, I was NEVER into such non-reversible destructive conversions... So, you'd be doing this at your own risk.
