Shifter linkage problems? Anyone else have them? How much to fix?

Hi,
I just found out my 2000 GTI needs a replacement shift linkage (I think the mechanic said some "cheap clips."
Anyone else run into this and about how much should I be paying to get this fixed?
Thanks.

Our shift linkage isn't the greatest, and one piece in particular is known to break. The replacement part costs about $5 and it takes a maximum of 5 minutes to replace. Don't get ripped off.

Thanks Jolf. The guy quoted my around 90 dollars. Thought that was high. What should I tell the mechanic to lower that price? I really think it should be covered under warrantee since you can't drive the car without the shifter linkage. VW does make some cheap parts to go into key places (i.e. MAF, diverter valve).

for my 2002 tiptronic, I had some major problems with the linkage between between my shifter and the tranny. I took it to the dealer and they had to replace a bunch of small defective parts.... Cost about $500, but it was all covered by the warranty
